Pergola Walk

Case study: Pergola Walk

I started with the daunting prospect of a garden space suffering from years of neglect. Specifically, the grass was compacted and inadequately drained leaving poor soil structure and a difficult area to work. In winter months the lawn quickly became waterlogged, due to compaction, and made accessing the lower parts of the garden a muddy and unpleasant experience.

We introduced sandstone paving and addressed the poor soil conditions. A planting scheme was introduced to areas adjacent to the paving, and we opted for an informal approach (with a pair of formal box balls) to provide structure.

Additional lighting was introduced, which changes the garden at night into a dynamic space for relaxation, entertainment or quiet contemplation.
